In Book 7 ofThe Years of Rice and Salt there has been some gret advancments in thier field of medicine. One of the things that helped them in the medicine was essentially a loophole around a religious barrier of preforming autopsies and dissections. The loophole was that the religious ban in Konstaniniyye did not apply to executed criminals. What shows that these dissections advance the field of medicine is that Ismail, a doctor fromKonstaniniyye, explained how affecting the nerves affects the body. "Cut th right nerve and the muscles beyond it will not move. Prick a nerve and the appropriate muscle will jump." Also the doctor answered questions about the movement of blood in the heart, movement of limbs when parts of the brain are exposed and prodded with needles and everything that he witnessed in each case of dissection.
